The highly-awaited second season of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel arrives on Prime Video soon, and audience theories has been intense.
The first season presents a diverse group of personalities residing in the afterlife, pits them against each other with musical numbers about their clashes, and builds tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that drive fan obsession.
The community's expectations for season 2 differ greatly, but certain themes emerge over and over: Will a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Will we find out more about the binding agreement constraining the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't make the show with fan service as the main goal," the showrunner commented recently. "But I believe that me being a fan of my own show implies there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator reveals her long-term vision is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That could imply fans have to wait years for some of the major resolutions — but they could be shocked at how quickly season 2 moves, and how many of what they're waiting for happens now.
"I feel like people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "There are several debut moments. I think we get some incredible reveals, some fascinating backstories, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience much more singing from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
The creator is well-informed of the guesses and hopes about season 2 — particularly in the format of fan bingo cards.
"I've seen a couple people create a bingo card about season 2," she says. "Obviously I can't post it, but I've already completed a few items, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on the streaming service on October 29.
